Hello, I'm David Roller, owner of Pere Marquette Outfitters. Five generations strong, on the Pere’ Marquette River, and I've spent 41 of my 51 years pursuing fish that have made the “PM” famous...Browns, Steelhead, and Salmon. I have been able to turn my passion for fishing and waterfowl into my full time job and livelihood for the last 29 years. Some would say, "I'm livin' the dream!"
Located near Baldwin, Michigan, Pere’ Marquette Outfitters is within a drive of some of North America’s finest fishing. The Pere’ Marquette, Muskegon, Manistee, Upper Manistee, Betsie, and Muskegon rivers present anglers exciting challenges at the end of a rod. With a variety of rivers, seasonable migratory patterns and adverse waters that may create extreme conditions can be compensated by shifting gears, and fishing a different river system, putting “your days” on the water, in the high percentile range.
During the “dog days” of summer in Michigan, catching a handful of brook trout and an occasional nice brown trout, I strive for a better fishery...nothing beats ALASKA!!!
In 1997, with rented equipment, a handful of trusting customers and I set out for Alaska, and started fly fishing the famed, National Wild and Scenic, Alagnak River. Today, my brother Kurt and I, run up to three, 16’ catarafts down this beautiful spectacle of a river, with all the gear necessary, for a comfortable 6 night, 7 day adventure, witnessing what has taken Mother Nature thousands of years to carve out.
During the summer, my business goes Alaskan bound where my son, Lil' David or "Crockett", and I spend weeks in the bush, pursuing trophy Rainbows, Grayling, and all five species of salmon. From Alaska (late summer till late fall) I jump right into our famed king salmon season on the Pere Marquette River. As the salmon season wanes, I can be found chasing chrome steelhead, or enticing Ducks in the decoys for customers and putting my Black Labrador, "Karma" to work.
During the winter months, when not fishing steelhead, I spend my time building custom built rods and tying scores of flies for the upcoming seasons. Occasionally I do speaking engagements for various clubs, and or head somewhere warm, to chase bonefish, snook, tarpon, or permit. From Central America to Alaska...I've seen a lot of fish!
We are not “cookie cutters”. We are the original cookie. We are the oldest running, locally owned guide service on the Pere’ Marquette river today. Pere Marquette Outfitters was born in 1979, when I worked for Josephine Sedlecky at Ed’s Sport Shop in Baldwin, MI. When local guides that run the MacDougal Boats in the 50’s and 60’s, retired, I unknowing started the next generation of local guides. Several of the guides out there today, have started under my tutelage.
Today I believe my group of guides and I, are the “hardest working guides on the river”. Period! And it shows, as we have a following, some who have been with us since Pere’ Marquette Outfitters’ inception in 1979. And we proudly hale many 25+ year veterans.
Enjoy our website....as it's been a labor of love.
Hope to see you on the river.
I've been in the business since 1979, and have the oldest, locally owned guide service on the Pere’ Marquette River. Five generations have lived near the middle branch of the “PM“, as the “Roller Bridge” access site is so named. In the mid 80’s, over 1200 dozen flies a year were cranked off my fly vise. I'm also one of the founding fathers of the Michigan River Guides Association. I have the good fortune to be on several television programs such as Inn Fisherman, Midwest Outdoors, Trophy Fish' in Television, and Doc Geiger's Outdoor Adventures.
OUR MISSION: To give you the most advanced attention, period! Getting you to the best bite possible, depending on conditions of your day, to some of the best fishing in the world. We are there to serve you, making “your day” as relaxed as the fish can make it. Catering to nothing less than your expectations, and striving not just to meet them but to exceed them.
